I knew we would need some additional items for the photo shoot to complete the look for our bride. We still hadn't nailed down the complete concept for the photo shoot but, without a doubt I knew we would need a few items, like a headpiece. I reached out to Tessa Kim. She makes incredible headpieces and I have been a fan for quite sometime. She had a headpiece on her website that completely caught my attention and I asked her if she would send it to us for the photo shoot. About this time I also had a thought: it would be nice to tie in this photo shoot with a giveaway for the wedding gown. I mentioned to Tessa that we would also like to give the headpiece away as part of our giveaway and she was totally on board!
One of the current trends for weddings today are brooch bouquets. I contacted a company located in San Diego, CA by the name of Blue Petyl to see if they would like to design a brooch bouquet for our photo shoot and they happily agreed! I sent a picture of the gown and they immediately got to work! When the finished product arrived - I was in awe! The photos I had been sent along the way just did not do this work of art justice - and brooch bouquets are works of art! Finding all of these pieces can not be easy!
By now, the photo shoot was coming together! In between shooting weddings, Ashley was busy scouting models as well. She had just finished shooting a local wedding and it was there that she spoke with the event coordinator, Erin Berenda and asked her if she would like to style our photo shoot. Once that was confirmed, our concept was put into motion with Erin. The theme of the photo shoot was going to be Vintage Hollywood Glam. Now, that the concept was nailed down, the pace started to pick up! Ashley also contact another friend, Brooke Casey-Lee, who is an amazing hair and make-up artist. Her company is called "A Pretty You" and after seeing her work, the name fits! I contacted a dear friend who owns a local wedding/special event venue and asked her if we could do the shoot there. Behind a black wrought-iron gate, a 972-foot drive lined with bougainvillea, holly trees and more than 100 rose bushes leads to the hidden gem known as The Jones Victorian Estate in Orange, California. The estate, built in 1881, is one of the most beautiful places!
We needed to come up with a few more accessories for our photo shoot - the important things - like the sweets! I was randomly searching for desserts when I came upon Miso Bakes. Fortunately, she was local and I contacted her right away! I explained this Vintage Hollywood Glam photo shoot we were doing and asked if she would like to create our sweets table - she thought about it, and finally to our happiness said the words anyone offering a proposal wants to hear: YES! We also needed mock invitations and I turned to my favorite site: Etsy. There, we found just what we were looking for with Jen Simpson Designs. I emailed her and explained what we were doing. I sent her all the photos we had put together for "inspiration" and left it up to her expertise to put the feel of the day on paper. This was the amazing design she came up with:
Etsy was also where we found Little Retreats who agreed to send us a pair of paddle signs. On one side they say "I'm her Mr" and "I'm his Mrs" and on the back you have "Thank" and "You". Ashley had a friend, Courtney Toney, who is a wedding and event designer based out of Southern California that made a matching "Mr & Mrs" banner for us. Her joyful joyful etsy shop is an offshoot of Joyful Weddings and Events, her event planning business. We also contacted Bella Umbrella, a vintage umbrella rental company. They agreed to send us three vintage umbrellas.
A simple vision, for one dress, turned into a photo shoot that exceeded everything we initially dreamed up! We went from a simple photo shoot to having a complete concept fulfilled. Thanks to the incredible talent of everyone involved, the Vintage Hollywood Glam photo shoot turned out beautifully and I can't wait to share all the images with our friends and fans! For now, here are a few shots from the day - captured by southern California wedding photographers Ashley and Jason.
